My word, a grammar mistake.

Well, it wasn’t my spelling mistake in the beginning. My first book, Katie’s Kottage, was published through another company. I paid (I know, lesson learned) and with the package, I received a professional blurb for the book, and they created my bio, and I received a book cover (no longer in use).

So, for my Bio, they first listed the name of my high school. Upon my review, I had them take it out, but the capitalizations stayed. I never caught this mistake until the fourth book.

Sigh.

By then I could have fixed it…But I didn’t.

Now, twelve books into publishing, it’s still a mistake, but not one most people would notice. Going forward with my next books, I’ll have it the correct way.

So, what does this mean?

Mistakes happen. Even to the most well-edited book. If you find a mistake in a favorite author’s book, don’t sweat it. Chances are, it was well-edited in the first place. In fact, if you do find a mistake, it’s still considered a well-edited book.

Did you know J.R.R. Tolkien has mistakes in his book? If you do a Google search on many of your favorite books, you’ll see even the great ones have grammar mistakes.

And it is quite common to find grammar issues in any published book—even from major publishing houses!

So, you published your book and you found a mistake. If you self-pub’d, fix it. If you trad pub’d, talk to them.

Grammar mistakes happen, but if your book is well-written, it will be overlooked.
