Writing Habits

What are your writing habits?

Do you write in the morning, mid-day, afternoon, evening?

Maybe by now, you noticed a theme on my website. “Write On!”

I adopted this because I was setting limits on myself. I would sit at my computer and stare or write something nonsensical. I would write and delete, over and over again. Until finally, I realized I was my own worst enemy.

Instead of deleting what I wrote, I created a file folder and copy and pasted everything I wanted to delete right into in. And you know what? I found out that many times, just because I didn’t use it in book A, it did work in book B.

You also might have heard the best time to write is early morning. It’s quiet, people are only just waking up, or maybe still sleeping. You can get your cup of tea or coffee, sit down at your computer, and blast away at your keyboard.

But you know what? Sometimes early morning writing isn’t for everyone.

The truth is, you need to find your best time for writing and make sure you write at that time every day. Whether it’s 15 minutes, an hour, two hours… whatever it is, just keep writing. And, by the way, even if you are conducting research on your book, it still counts as writing.

As long as you are doing something to further your book, count it as progress.

And, whether you write one word or a thousand, you’re still further along than where you started. Pat yourself on the back and pour another cup! You deserve it.

This is so true for every story you write. Whether you think it’s crap or sensational.

But the most important thing is to keep writing and develop the habit of writing. It’s a skill, and with practice, you get better and better at it. So, don’t stop writing!

Thank you for reading, and don’t forget to…
