My Tips for writing, whether you are new or seasoned:

Love yourself.

Just write it. Whatever is in your head, how you think it or speak it, just write it!

Don’t get bogged down by the ‘rules’ of writing. (Editing comes after the first draft).

Enjoy the writing process: if you don’t, then why are you writing?

Your writing process is your own—whether it’s on paper or computer, it’s not wrong and don’t compare yourself to anyone who might do it differently.

Don’t be afraid to start another book while writing the one you have now.

It’s okay to write a scene, or chapter, out of sequence.

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right – Henry Ford.

Trust your reader!

Not everyone will like your writing, and that’s okay! The right people will.

Be kind to yourself.

Don’t get caught in the ‘what ifs.’ Do get caught in the ‘what ifs.’

Don’t be afraid to change your mind.

Find your style when you know how to write well—take yourself out of the process, don’t put yourself into it.

If you get stuck, take a break, do something else for a while.

Writing should always be fun.

If you are viewing it as a chore, or ‘something that just needs to get done,’ then maybe reevaluate what you are doing.

Take a step back. Read for a while. Work on a back-burner story. Write a short story. Blog. Take time to think. Get out your notebook and come up with plots and ideas.

I believe in you, and I know you can write what you set out to do when you first picked up a pen, or sat at your keyboard, and for some of you, your typewriter.
